How to Migrate Analysis Services 2008 Database to 2012 AS database along with Dimension Data Security


Potential Approaches:

 
Method 1 – Backup and Restore Technique
 
Step1 -Take backup of SSAS 2008 database to be migrated 

Step2 - Restore SSAS 2008 database backup to  new environment having SSAS 2012 and this will restore all your AS security along with Data dimension security to your new environment


Method 2: Reverse engineer SSAS cube

Open Analysis Services database from Data Tools (file-> open) and you can reverse engineer the whole solution including the roles and security to your local machine and then then you can then deploy to any SQL 2012 AS instance 


Method 3 - Using Visual studio conversion wizard

Convert SQL 2008 AS project to 2012 and then process cube, so you can get the cube working
